Internship and Independent Study Compensation Guidelines
For internships or independent studies courses that fulfill Penn State
Altoona degree program requirements, the supervising faculty member can
obtain a teaching workload reduction in future semesters based on the
following guidelines:
- Directing 18 student credit hours of internships and/or
independent studies is the equivalent to a one-credit reduction in the
supervising faculty member's teaching workload. When a faculty
member has directed 54 student credit hours of internships and/or
independent studies, the faculty member is entitled to a 3-credit
reduction in their teaching workload.
- For internships and/or independent study courses that are
recommended as part of a Penn State Altoona degree program (but not
required), upon approval of the Division Head of the affected Division,
the faculty member may obtain a teaching workload reduction in future
semesters using the formula above.
- For internships in Business and Engineering, faculty compensation
will be based on the current model used in the Division of Business and
Engineering.
- No more than six credits of course reduction can be redeemed in
any one semester.
