Emerging Artist in Theatrical DesignThe Penn State Altoona Theatre program invites applications for its 2013 Spring Emerging Theatrical Artist in Residence Program. This spring’s competition seeks an Emerging Artist with a focus in one or more technical design elements; including, but not limited to, Sound, Lights, Set, Costume or Properties. The residency is designed to offer an Emerging Artist substantial time to develop your technical, teaching and/or design skills, and offers a salary of $10,000. You may work with the faculty director to design and implement your element for our upcoming production of the musical Spring Awakening or use the time to further explore your craft. Resident Fiction and Creative Nonfiction WriterThe Penn State Altoona English Program is taking applications for a one-semester teaching residency in fiction and creative nonfiction. The residency is designed to offer an emerging writer substantial time to write and offers a salary of $10,000 in return for teaching one general education level introduction to creative writing workshop during the Fall 2013 semester (August 26–December 20). The resident writer will also give a public reading and work informally with our English majors. We are looking for a writer with publications of fiction and creative nonfiction in literary magazines. Emphasis will be placed on the quality of the work submitted. Instructor/Technical Director in Theatre Arts(Multi-year Fixed-Term) Pennsylvania State University, Altoona College Division of Arts and Humanities invites applications for a full-time instructor in Theatre Arts and as Technical Director (position 38572) starting July 1, 2013. The Technical Director is responsible for all physical aspects of the production and performing arts spaces for the Misciagna Family Center for the Performing Arts, including maintenance, sets, technical direction and design for events and productions, purchasing supplies, and supervising crews. This position is 48-week, three-year contract with the possibility of renewal. Penn State Altoona offers a competitive salary and attractive benefits package. Applicants should possess the ability to teach Introduction to Theatre and other courses related to the candidate’s specialization including, but not limited to lighting, stage construction, sound, or costuming. The ideal candidate should possess technical knowledge of all aspects of theatre, including: lighting, including electrics; sound; carpentry; welding; properties; rigging; computer drafting; and theatrical production software. They must also be familiar with OSHA regulations and theater safety. The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational, communication, and strategic problem solving skills; the ability to work as a team member; and a commitment to excellence and undergraduate education. The candidate must be comfortable supervising crew members, students, faculty and staff and have an understanding of an academic environment. This position requires extended weekly hours, weekends and evenings. Applicants should possess 5+ years related experience and a M.A. or higher degree in related discipline. A preference will be given to applicants with advanced degrees and university teaching experience.
