The biology department at Penn State Altoona offers students a variety of experiences to enhance their academic careers. Students can spend all four years of their college career at Penn State Altoona pursuing a biology degree, or they can spend their first two years here and then complete their degree at University Park. The biology program at Penn State Altoona offers a diverse set of lower and upper level courses to train students for careers in diverse areas such as medicine, ecology, biotechnology, agricultural science, and forensic science, among others. Our program offers the benefits of a major university, while giving students a small college experience with small class sizes and close interaction with faculty. Our faculty are dedicated teachers who are also accomplished researchers, many of which have mentored student research projects. Students at Penn State Altoona have gained research experience in exotic locations such as Puerto Rico, South Africa, and New Zealand. Many of the projects have resulted in student coauthored publications and presentations at regional, national, or international scientific meetings. Our graduates have gone on to medical or other professional schools and graduate degree programs. Comments from our students"I like the small classes and the one-on-one interactions with the professors." "I like how friendly the professors are when you have a question about the material." "I think that the biology department is a very good representation of how our students benefit educationally both inside and outside the classroom. Personally, I am excited and honored to do research under reputable professors building my experience with not only exam preparation, but exclusive out- of- classroom projects. I am definitely satisfied with the Biology Department at Penn State Altoona." "I like how professors are willing to answer questions outside of the classroom and how they help to prepare you for medical or graduate schools." Contact:Edward P.
