Integrative Arts

Integrative Arts, B.A. (IARAL)

Choose a track

Each integrative arts major is required to complete 24 credits in a primary art area and 18 in secondary arts. Included in these 42 credits are 6 credits in various art/theatre/music/dance history course and 15 credits on the 400-level. Students may design a course of study with the primary and secondary art areas determined by their own intersts with guidance from their advisor and formalized in a proposal required of all majors by the completion of 60 credits. Or students may prefer to follow a predetermined track of study.

The arts, as defined by the integrative arts major include: theatre, music, dance, visual arts, digital media, creative writing, photography and film/ video. The secondary art areas can be expanded to include any other field of study, such as business, psychology, English, biology, communications, women's studies, history, and any other courses offered on our campus.

Integrative Arts majors complete a senior project in their final year. The goal is to create a new statement in the arts, integrating their chosen fields of study. Students often choose to produce, direct, perform, create exhibitions, write books, but anything is possible. Collaboration with other seniors is highly encouraged.

Opportunities abound for those interested in any type of involvement in performance or production: a minimum of two theatre productions every year, Ivyside Dance Ensemble, Ivyside Pride, five additional music ensembles, a literary magazine, and a student newspaper.
