Criminal Justice–18 credits

Nationwide, criminal justice (CJ) is a labor-intensive growth industry. According to Pennsylvania Workforce 2000, legal services and protective services will provide many career opportunities in the future for people with an education in criminal justice. The CJ certificate will help students prepare for immediate career opportunities in criminal justice. The following 3-credit courses (unless marked) must be completed to receive a certificate.

BB H 143: Drugs, Behavior, and Health
Health aspects of use and abuse of licit and illicit drugs; related social problems and prevention. Designed for non-BB H majors.

CAS 100A: Effective Speech
Principles of communication, implemented through presentation of speeches with some attention to group discussion and message evaluation.

CRIMJ 100: Introduction to Criminal Justice
Overview of the criminal justice system, including legal foundations, processing and correction of offenders, extent and types of crime, and victims.

CRIMJ 220: Courts and the Prosecution Process
Purpose and function of criminal courts in society, organization, jurisdiction, and staffing; prosecution, adjudication, and sentencing of offenders. Prerequisite: CRIMJ 100

ENGL 015: Rhetoric and Composition
Instruction and practice in writing expository prose that shows sensitivity to audience and purpose.
Prerequisite: ENGL 004 or satisfactory performance on the English proficiency

MIS 103: Microcomputer Applications in Business
Introduction to current business sues of the microcomputer, including spreadsheets, database management, word-processing, and decision-making models.

PSYCH 100: Introduction to Psychology
Introduction to general psychology, principles of human behavior, and their applications.

SOC 119: Race and Ethnic Relations
Historical patterns and current status of racial and ethnic groups; inequality, competition, and conflict; social movements; government policy.
