Welcome from the Alumni Society
As president of the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society Board, it is a privilege being selected as the leader of such a fine group. Great things are happening with the board and will continue as we look toward the future.
For the first time in several years, the board has reached its full contingent of membership. The positive attitude and energy of the group has produced a generous amount of collaborative efforts.
This past year, the board doubled its commitment to endow a scholarship that directly benefits Penn State Altoona students. That is our primary mission as a board and one in which we are firmly committed that the endowment should continually increase in order to offer more opportunities for students.
Beyond the endowed scholarship, the Alumni Society can be seen as active participants in the Penn State Altoona community and the general community at large, where our members welcome students to campus each fall, serve as alumni mentors and career panelists, and provide pizza at the end of the semester to help relieve the stress of finals. The board also mans a booth and sells Penn State Creamery ice cream as a fundraising effort at a number of community events, to help benefit student scholarships. Every April, the board visits a local senior citizens' facility for treating the residents to dishes of their favorite flavor, and students are provided with a scoop of the yummy treat to help beat the heat during summer classes. Board members can also be seen several times a year cleaning our adopted stretch of highway on Juniata Gap Road to beautify the area near campus, and we've carried on the tradition of sponsoring a Midwinter Dance each March, providing entertainment and a fun evening for alumni and community members to enjoy.
If you like what you have read and you would like to offer your services for such an energetic effort, consider applying to the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society Board through the Penn State Altoona website. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
