Gift Annuity
The establishment of the Dr. Arthur and Dorothy Pollock Scholarship is the latest example of caring people helping future students of Penn State Altoona. The endowed fund will provide monies, in perpetuity, for upper division students who have proven financial need. Dr. Pollock served as a General Practice Physician in Altoona for nearly half a century and Mrs. Pollock was employed by Sylvania for 38 years.

In establishing this scholarship fund, the Pollocks have created a Gift Annuity that will provide a guaranteed lifetime income, through the life of the last survivor. Additionally, such a charitable contribution to Penn State Altoona provides income tax incentives and a capital gains bypass if appreciated assets are used to make the gift. The endowed scholarship will then be funded with the residuum of the annuity.

Student Scholarships and Endowed Lectureships
Sheetz, Inc., Altoona-based operator of a chain of convenience stores, and company chairman Stephen G. Sheetz and his wife, Nancy, have committed $450,000 to endow scholarships for Penn State Altoona students in the business program at the campus, and $50,000 to endow a series of visiting lectures by outstanding business professionals. The visiting lecture program will bring successful entrepreneurs to the classroom and will give students more opportunities to learn about real-world business problems.

Faculty and Program Support
A $500,000 testamentary gift donation to Penn State Altoona by Maurice and Mary Lou Lawruk will provide funds for new programs and faculty support. The gift will provide opportunities for Penn State Altoona to enhance its services and build for the future, as well as provide funds that will be available for perpetuity. Maurice Lawruk is Chairman of the Board of Maurice A. Lawruk Builders Inc.
