Greetings from the Director
As I was reading the article on the Fochler family that appears in this edition of IvyLink, I was reminded of the following refrain in the Penn State Alma Mater:
Sing our love and loyalty,
Sing our hopes that, bright and free,
Rest, O Mother dear, with thee,
All with thee, all with thee.
The Fochler family tree is expansive. Three generations have hitched their academic goals and professional aspirations to the ever-ascending Penn State star. The late Edward Fochler, his nine children, and eight grandchildren all expressed their belief in the value of a Penn State education by accepting offers of admission. All but four of the grandchildren entered the path to academic achievement at Penn State Altoona. The other four grandchildren started their college careers at the University Park campus.
As a proud Penn Stater, I just love stories that reflect the love and loyalty of our friends and alumni like the Fochlers. And there is no shortage of these inspiring tales. In my role as Director of Development and Alumni Relations, I am fortunate to meet individuals with varied backgrounds, careers, and experiences who all share one common bond: their enduring support for Penn State Altoona and our University.
My team is always seeking to provide a forum for our proud alumni and friends to maintain their own personal bond with Penn State Altoona. IvyLink is one of those forums. Our Alumni Weekend, scheduled for October 11-13, 2013, is another. Please mark your calendar now for our annual fall slate of activities, which will include campus tours, educational sessions, and social engagements. More specific information about Alumni Weekend will be released in upcoming editions of IvyLink.
But until then, if you have an interesting personal story about your experiences as a Penn State Altoona student, alumnus, or friend that you would like to share, please pass it along. We would love to hear from you at IvyLink@psu.edu!
As always, thank you for your interest in IvyLink. We Are ... Penn State!
N. Susan Woodring
