It has been my privilege to serve as Director of Development and Alumni Relations at Penn State Altoona for ten years now. The steadfast commitment of our benefactors, the passion of our alumni for all things Penn State, and the warm sentiments of support from donors, graduates, and friends alike inspire me each day to maximize my efforts on behalf of our students and University.
So I wish to express thanks to all who demonstrate loyalty to Penn State Altoona through volunteer leadership, service, philanthropy, and fervent advocacy.
Undeniably, your generosity and engagement help our University to maintain its stature as one of the world’s premier institutions of higher learning.
On September 19, 2013, Penn State Altoona celebrated philanthropic support of our college with the annual Ivyside Society Induction Ceremony. An article about the ceremony appears in this edition of IvyLink. The Ivyside Society was established by the Penn State Altoona Advisory Board in 1987 to honor those who, through their philanthropic support and leadership, share a commitment to the continuing excellence of Penn State Altoona.
The Ivyside Society is a microcosm of everything that I cherish about my association with our college, benefactors, alumni, volunteers, faculty, staff, and students. I discovered soon after my appointment that our donors are passionate about higher education and the programs and initiatives they support. The individuals, couples, and corporate executives who engage Penn State Altoona through philanthropy care deeply about their role in helping our students fulfill their goals and aspirations.
The commitment of our donors enabled Penn State Altoona to raise our initial goal in the For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students from $15 million to $20 million. This goal is the second-highest among all Penn State campuses, other than University Park. With the economic challenges facing institutions of higher learning today, an additional $5 million in gifts to our college will significantly impact decisions relating to the creation, retention, expansion or elimination of countless academic and co-curricular programs and activities.
After thirty years in higher education, there is one thing I can say with complete certainty: every gift impacts the academic experiences of our students. And once those students graduate, our society benefits from the contributions of a well-educated and well-trained professional.
I consider it a privilege to serve in an administrative role that enables me to help match a donor’s philanthropic interests with an urgent need at our college. The Ivyside Society Induction Ceremony is but one enduring symbol of our appreciation for the support of our benefactors.
Thank you for devoting time to reading my message, and best wishes for a great fall!
