Ivy Link

Fall Greetings from Our Director

As you might expect, I think every edition of IvyLink is special. But based on a review of the contents for this month’s newsletter, I consider this edition to be extra special, and I hope you will agree.

The purpose of IvyLink is to provide updates on special initiatives that advance the mission of our college and share exciting news about Penn State Altoona students, alumni, benefactors, faculty, and staff. The October IvyLink is all that and more.

This month we highlight the generosity of Dave and Sandy Kline, Penn State alumni who recently created a Trustee Scholarship at Penn State Altoona. We also detail the day Penn State Alumni Fellow Anna Gomez spent on campus sharing her professional experiences with students. In addition, special attention is focused on Alumni Weekend activities, including the Pioneer Induction Ceremony, and the formation of our college’s Rail Transportation Engineering Advisory Board.

To top it off, we offer a preliminary introduction to a special holiday surprise for our readers.

The reason this IvyLink is extra special to me is because the beautiful fabric of this edition was woven by extended members of our Penn State Altoona family who have made a conscious decision to remain connected with our college through philanthropy, leadership, and active engagement. Whether making a gift in support of our students, accepting an invitation to participate in a social event or speak to a class, or volunteering to help chart the strategic path of a new academic program, our alumni and friends are casting their own indelible imprint on Penn State Altoona.

I hope you will enjoy all the special features we have created for the October IvyLink. With the arrival of Halloween, the holiday season is now officially upon us. My team has a special treat in store for our IvyLink faithful. I absolutely love Christmas, but it is still way too early for gift presentations, so I must be content with allowing that anticipation to build; at least until the November edition, that is!

Once again, I express thanks for your interest in your alma mater. If you have a special holiday memory—from New Year’s Day through the Fourth of July to Christmas—that you would like to share with IvyLink, please write to me at IvyLink@psu.edu. I would really like to hear from you.

Enjoy fall in all its splendor!

Warm regards,

N. Susan Woodring
