After receiving the award in the New/Innovative Event or Program category, Tom Koehle, president of the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society, is congratulated by Ned A. Brokloff, who provided support for the award.

The Penn State Altoona Alumni Society was presented the Penn State Alumni Association award in the New/Innovative Event or Program category during the 2013 Volunteer Awards Recognition Dinner on November 1 at University Park. The Alumni Society was recognized for its Winter Plunge event. Thomas J. Koehle, president of the Alumni Society, accepted a certificate and two cash awards totaling $1,500.

Approximately eighty-five Penn State Altoona students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends plunged into the waters of Canoe Creek State Park on January 27, 2013, in support of a philanthropic event that benefited the Alumni Society’s scholarship program and Penn State Altoona Benefitting THON. Net proceeds from pledges and sponsorships totaled over $13,000.

The 2014 Winter Plunge is scheduled for January 26 at Canoe Creek.
