Representing Penn State Altoona classes from 1939 through 1962, alumni and their spouses and guests traveled from regions across the country to participate in the college’s inaugural Pioneer Induction Ceremony and a host of activities celebrating Pioneer Reunion Weekend and Homecoming October 4-7, 2012.
Twenty-nine Pioneers — defined as alumni who completed their Penn State education fifty or more years ago — were recognized for their special status during an induction ceremony in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. A number of other Pioneers who were unable to attend the induction ceremony participated in a diverse array of activities throughout the weekend. The reunion attracted alumni from California, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
In addition to the Homecoming Parade and induction ceremony, reunion activities included campus tours, educational sessions led by Penn State Altoona faculty, tailgate parties at University Park and the Slep Student Center, an Alumni Nostalgia night reception in Port-Sky Café, and a farewell brunch.
