William J. “Bill” Rossman
William J. “Bill” Rossman is a faithful benefactor, volunteer, and advocate for Penn State Altoona and the University. This past spring, he was honored at the inaugural Penn State Altoona Renaissance Scholarship Fund Dinner and recognized as an Honorary Alumnus.
Nearly $100,000 was raised for a student scholarship in Rossman’s name at the dinner attended by over 200. University-wide, Renaissance Scholarships are awarded to academically talented Penn State students who have the greatest financial need.
The only other individual recognized as an Honorary Alumnus at the 2005 ceremony was Penn State President Graham Spanier.
Rossman serves on the Penn State Altoona Advisory Board and is former chairperson of the College’s Steering Committee for the Grand Destiny Campaign and Development Council. He also is a member of Penn State’s National Council on Philanthropy.
Rossman and his wife, Judy, have been honored for philanthropic support that has benefited many areas of the College with induction into Penn State Altoona’s Ivyside Society. The Society was established by the Penn State Altoona Advisory Board in 1987 to honor those who, through their philanthropic support and leadership, share a commitment to the continuing excellence of Penn State Altoona.
Rossman’s life story is truly inspirational. Viewing the economic hardships of his neighbors during his developmental years in Altoona, Rossman committed himself to improving the quality of life for others. As his career in banking advanced, he engaged in the development of national award-winning programs that contributed to economic recovery in communities and relieved financial hardship on families. In semi-retirement today, Rossman, former Regional President of M&T Bank, still searches for means that will make life better for the less fortunate. His service to a lengthy list of professional, non-profit, and civic organizations and educational institutions truly is admirable.
