Family Weekend 2016

Family Weekend for fall 2016 will be held Friday, September 23 - Sunday, September 25, 2016. This is a fun and engaging weekend for students and families to gain more information about the Penn State experience and to celebrate student success. Coffee House & Open Mic Night
Hosted by the Creative Writers Club
Come, relax, and hear our students show off their talent, or if you have a talent, feel free to take the stage!

Pond View Lounge, Slep Student Center

9:30 p.m.

Family Spirit Bingo
Hosted by the Campus Activities Board
This event is free and will surely be one of your favorite events of the weekend! Your chance of winning one of our great prize PSU-themed baskets is significantly higher if you attend! Arrive early to guarantee yourself a seat! Don't be afraid to show up decked out in your favorite Penn State gear.

Adler Gymnasium

Finding Dory
The friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish reunites with her loved ones, and everyone learns a few things about the real meaning of family along the way.
Come watch a free movie with us and grab some candy and popcorn too! Come as you are - grab your favorite blanket and bunny slippers and get ready to giggle with Dory!

Hike Seminar Forest
Sponsored by the Outdoors Adventure Club
Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes and bring a bottle of water. The OAC will lead you on a hike in our beautiful backyard. The hike is steep, so please only participate if you believe you are able to make the hill.

Meet by the Laurel Pavilion

10 a.m.

Paint Your Own Pottery
Hosted by Playtime Pottery in Hollidaysburg, PA
Show us your creative side! We will provide the pottery pieces and paint. You will paint your masterpiece and leave it here. A few weeks from the event we will contact your Penn State Altoona student to pick up your finished product.

Make sure to sign up at Registration! Only 75 spots are available.

Come learn about plants and how to be a gardener from a local practitioner. Get your hands dirty while planting a few flowers! Bring your questions about your own house gardens and landscaping!

  • Get keepsakes of your weekend with both a photo keychain (for free) at the Lion Shrine or a round in the photobooth.
  • Challenge your family at your favorite tailgating games
  • Enjoy some Penn State Creamery Ice Cream
  • Enjoy the various offerings from student organizations

Bring your spirit to the Roar Zone as the women and men's soccer teams take on Pitt Bradford! Women's team starts at 1 p.m. and Men's team plays at 3:15 p.m.

Career Services Open House
Stop in anytime from 1 - 3 p.m. to meet the staff of Career Services and learn about what this office can do for your student! At 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. an introduction of who we are, how we can assist and serve students, and how parents can encourage their students in the major and career selection processes.

Local History Tour: Downtown Walking Tour
Led by the professor who wrote the book Images of Modern America: Altoona, Jared Frederick, this walking tour will begin at the Railroaders Museum (1300 9th Ave, Altoona, PA) and end at the Devorris Center. Learn Altoona history during this half mile walk!
