Working with Students with Disabilities

Do I need to have information related to accessing Disability Services on my syllabus?

Since many students have disabilities not readily noticeable, this announcement encourages students to identify their needs early in the semester so timely adaptations can be made. A statement on the syllabus and an announcement in class normalizes the accommodation process by treating it as just another part of the course. The accommodation process should be one of collaboration between the student, the instructor, and Disability Services staff. Students already working with Disability Services will have a certifying letter that supports their requests for accommodations and verifies their eligibility. Refer students to ODS if they request accommodations without this certifying letter.
