 Work Study, Wage Payroll, and Internship Positions

Those who qualify for and are interested in a work

study position may apply for the Computer Center Counter Assistant position.  If hired you will work

at the Computer Center's Help Desk performing

basic tasks such as answering phones, handing

out computer related materials, sorting printouts,

providing basic information, and general cleaning.  General computer knowledge including Office and Windows XP is helpful but not required.

 

Computer Consultant is another option for those

who qualify for work study.  Computer consultants

are required to have general computing skills as

well as knowledge in the use of the core

components of the current Microsoft Office Suite

(Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel), Symantec

Security Client, Internet Explorer, and Outlook

Express.  Applicants should be familiar with Penn State's online systems such as eLion and Webmail.  Knowledge of programming languages and web page development would be helpful.

 

For those not participating in work study, the computer center has positions such as Help Desk technical support.  This position aids students, staff, and faculty in dial-up support, Ethernet support, wireless issues, and software issues.  Therefore, applicants should be familiar with these concepts as well as use of the software mentioned in the Computer Consultant position.  If the applicant is accepted they will answer questions by phone and in person at the Help Desk.

 

The other wage position available is with ResTECH and involves connecting computers to the Penn State Network and aiding students in computer maintenance in the residence halls.  The knowledge required to complete these tasks includes knowledge of Ethernet Card installation (Physical and Software), TCP/IP Configuration, External Hardware Set-up, Software Installation, as well as, use of Eudora, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Microsoft Office, Visual Studio, and Virus Removal Software.

Internship information

The Department of Information Technology at Penn State Altoona is offering summer internship positions. We are looking for motivated IST degree students who need to fulfill their 300 hour internship requirement.

We offer a technical work environment as we are responsible for the ordering, installation and maintenance of approximately 1,000 computers at the Altoona College. Both PC and Macintosh systems are running in our labs and we utilize all the latest versions of operating systems. This is a fast-paced environment and it offers very valuable work and technical experience.

 

Requirements: Applicant must be enrolled at Penn State. IST degree students are preferred and will be considered first. You must be able to start employment in May or June.

Benefits: By taking part in our internship program you will be paid a comparable wage. Hours are flexible.
