Grant Awarded for PLCB Research Study

Penn State Altoona's Health and Wellness Center recently was awarded a $10,646 grant through the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board's initiative, entitled "Effective and Promising Practices to Reduce High Risk Drinking." The grant focuses on a research study involving first-year students and the transition to college. The goals of the program are to reduce alcohol-related harm by addressing misconceptions related to alcohol use. The grant will be in effect from July 13, 2006, to June 30, 2007.

"Students transition into the college setting thinking that everyone drinks all the time. This couldn't be further from the truth; however, we know that perceptions drive behavior," says Dr. Joy Himmel, director of the Center and the grant project director.
