Christopher Thomas (part-time instructor in visual arts) recently had a self-published art book entitled "Studio Resource for the Creation of Nonobjective Paintings Relating to Everyday Experience, Volume 1" enter the collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Henry Israeli's (part-time instructor in English/integrative arts) book of poetry,
New Messiahs, was recently published by Four Way Books.
Dinty W. Moore's (professor of English) short short story, "Rumford," was published in the November 2002 issue of
Quick Fiction.
Junior English major Jeremy Sellers and sophomore communications major Tyson Sharbaugh are among the 104 authors with stories featured in Sudden Stories: The MAMMOTH Book of Miniscule Fiction (MAMMOTH books, 2003). English major
Jonathan Holmes served as associate editor for the book. Along with the Penn State Altoona students, the book features the work of significant national authors such as Scott Russell Sanders, Melanie Rae Thon, Bret Lott, Josip Novakovich, Judith Ortiz Cofer, and numerous others. The book has already been adapted for use in eight creative writing classes across the country this summer and fall, including a graduate workshop at Emerson College.
Dinty W. Moore, professor of English at Penn State Altoona, served as the book's editor.
Ken Womack's (head, division of arts and humanities; associate professor of English) edition of
The Good Soldier, by Ford Madox Ford, was recently published by Broadview Press.
Amir Marvasti's (visiting assistant professor of sociology) article, "Writing the Exotic, the Authentic, and the Moral: Romanticism as Discursive Resource for the Ethnographic Text," was recently published in
Qualitative Inquiry (Volume 8, Number 6, 2002). The article's second author is Christopher Faircloth.
Karyn D. McKinney's (assistant professor of sociology) book, The Many Costs of Racism, (Rowman and Littlefield) was published in December 2002. Her co-author is Joe R. Feagin. The book draws on their interviews with middle-class African Americans, as well as other research studies, and is a vivid account of the medical, mental and economic effects of everyday discrimination for black Americans and communities—and of racism's high costs for all Americans.
David Esposito's (assistant professor of history and American studies) article "FDR and American Strategic Vulnerability" has been published in Thomas C. Howard, "FDR and the Formation of the Modern World," M.E. Sharpe, 2003.
Ian Marshall's (professor of English) second book, Peak Experiences: Waling Meditations on Literature, Nature and Need, has just been released by the University of Virginia Press.
