Valerie Stratton

Valerie Stratton (associate professor of psychology and head of the Division of Education, Human Development, and Social Sciences) has been recognized with the 2006 McKay Donkin Award.

Established in 1969 in honor of the late McKay Donkin, vice president for finance and treasurer of the University from 1957 to 1968, the award is presented to a full-time faculty or staff member or retiree for duties or services performed above and beyond those regularly assigned, and who has contributed most to the economic, physical, mental, or social welfare of the Penn State faculty.

Stratton has been a faculty member in psychology at Penn State Altoona since 1971. In 2003 she was named coordinator of its Psychology program, after having chaired the committee that oversaw the development and curricular review process of that baccalaureate degree program. That same year she was named head of Penn State Altoona's Division of Education, Human Development, and Social Sciences, and in that role she oversees the budgets of several programs and addresses resource concerns of faculty within the division.

Stratton served the University Faculty Senate for eight years as a Penn State Altoona representative and member of multiple committees, and twice chaired the Altoona Senate. She helped establish an Altoona chapter of the first-year student honor society Alpha Lambda Delta and was its faculty advisor for thirty years. She also maintains an academic advising role for nearly fifty students.
