College Holds First Relay for Life Event
Penn State Altoona held its inaugural Relay For Life event this spring, as thirteen teams raised approximately $8,000 for the fight against cancer. Relay is the American Cancer Society's nationwide signature fundraising event; the overnight event is designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society.
During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Penn State Altoona's overnight event was centered around the campus pond.
The college's Relay team has its second event scheduled for October; alumni are welcome to participate in the event. For more information, contact Deb Hommer at 814-949-5265.
