Development & Alumni
A Letter from the President
As my role of Alumni Society president comes to a close and I reflect on the future of Penn State Altoona, I can't help but feel proud and excited to be associated with such a wonderful college. The success and development at Penn State Altoona is nothing short of amazing. Penn State Altoona continues to grow, with more than 3,800 students and seventeen bachelor's degrees and nine associate degrees. This growth and continued success is the product of a talented and committed community of faculty, students, parents, alumni, friends, and supporters. The skill and energy of this community of people are reason alone for my optimism for Penn State Altoona's future.
However, it is with a special fondness that I reflect on the Alumni Society Board and its contribution to the success of Penn State Altoona. The Society Board sponsored move-in day activities, a graduate fair, a finals week social on campus, and a football tailgate party. The Board also participated in several events off campus. These events included a mid-winter fundraising dance, an ice cream social at a local nursing home, and several Adopt-A-Highway cleanups. The efforts and contributions of the Society did not go unnoticed. They received the Affiliate Group Award for Student Interaction from the Penn State Alumni Association. The Society will continue to play a key role in the future and I urge you to become involved. Please contact the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society.
I'd also like to ask and encourage all alumni—recent graduates as well as those who left the college many years ago—to rekindle your relationship with Penn State Altoona. Join the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society or come back to campus for an event or simply for a stroll around campus. See all that's happening. Stay tuned to altoona.psu.edu/development/alumni_society.htm for upcoming events.
As alumni, we all share a common bond to Penn State Altoona that is difficult to articulate. Thomas Wolfe once wrote,"You can't go home again." I disagree. While none of us can turn the clock back, we can stay connected to the place that had so much to do with laying the foundation upon which each of us has built careers, families, relationships, and dreams.
For the glory,
Amy L. MacIntyre
