New Members Join Development Council

Penn State Altoona's Development Council welcomes three new volunteer leaders, Robert D. Johnson, Ronald L. Mallett, and Diane L. Meling. The Council assists in formulating development strategy, identifying prospective Council members, and broadening the college's base of support among alumni and friends nationwide.

Johnson, of Altoona, is a certified public accountant and president of Moses Johnson & Associates P.C. of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. A part-time lecturer in accounting and statistics at Penn State Altoona, Johnson serves on the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants Ethics and State Legislative committees, is a member of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce Legislative Action Committee, and has served on the Altoona City Council.

Mallett, of East Hartford, Connecticut, is a professor of physics at the University of Connecticut with primary research interests in general relativity and gravitation, black holes, relativistic astrophysics, and quantum cosmology. He is regarded as an authority on time travel, and has been prominently featured in the media on this topic.

Meling, of Altoona, is manager of the Borough of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. The wife of the late Dr. Kjell Meling, former associate dean for academic affairs and Emeritus Professor of English at Penn State Altoona, Meling has served on the Logan Township Board of Supervisors. Her career in government spans twenty years and includes eleven years of service as director of community development for Hollidaysburg.

During the next three years, the Development Council will focus on identifying prospects who will support undergraduate research and the needs of faculty, the creation of student scholarships, and capital projects.
