Ivy Leaf - Spring 2004
Penn State Altoona's bookstore was expanded and renovated this year to accommodate the College's growth in students and academic programs. With the addition of 1,700 square feet, a number of brand-new amenities were added to the bookstore, including a seating area in the reference section, an expanded clothing area, and a new lobby with seating. The checkout area was also expanded for greater student convenience during busy times throughout the semester. The bookstore is now designed to accommodate between 4,500 and 5,000 students.
Originally built in 1984, the bookstore was approximately 5,800 square feet when it first opened its doors to the Penn State Altoona community. Since that time, the bookstore has been renovated twice. It was operated by Penn State until the 1990s, when the University awarded Barnes and Noble College Bookstores, Inc. a contract to manage the bookstores at all Penn State locations.
