Penn State Altoona hosts Second Annual Lion Invitational
Penn State Altoona hosted the Second Annual Lion Cross-Country Invitational at Fort Roberdeau in Altoona this fall, an event that featured races for collegiate men and women, as well as scholastic races for high school boys and girls. Over 450 athletes competed in the collegiate, scholastic, and open races.
Sophomore Christian Schmidt from Pittsburgh was the top placing Lion athlete, taking 11th place with a clocking of 27:02 for the 7.5 km course. His finish helped lead the team to a 4th place finis overall. The second Lion finisher was junior Steven Werner from St. Mary's, PA, who was ten places back in 21st. Bucknell University won the men's race.
Freshman Leann Cascino out of Johnstown, PA was the top placing Lady Lion, finishing 12th with a time of 22:15 for the challenging 5 km course. Sophomore Jessica Hughes continued to show improvement, finishing 18th for the Lady Lions. The Lady Lions team finished fourth overall as Juniata College won the women's race.
