OMG! Txting @ PSU Altoona

The Penn State Altoona community has a new means by which to learn about schedule changes and campus closings due to inclement weather this winter, as well as other campus alerts. In spring 2006, Penn State Altoona partnered with Penn State's Newswire service to offer students, faculty, staff, and community members a new way to find out about the latest news.

PSUTXT is a text-messaging service that sends news and information directly to subscribers' cell phones. Subscription to the PSUTXT service is free and available to the general public.

Subscribers have their choice of news feeds including the following:

  • Altoona news: information about Penn State Altoona emergencies, delays, and cancellations
  • Emergency notices: University Park weather alerts, campus closings, etc.
  • Concert information: University Park entertainment news including Bryce Jordan Center concert announcements
  • Sports alerts: information about upcoming Penn State, University Park games

All news feeds are optional. Subscribers will only receive messages from feeds that are specifically selected. Any cell phone number registered with the service is protected by encryption and will be used exclusively for this service.
