Staff Honored

Jay Burlingame (associate director of Student Affairs) was honored with the 2007 Vice President's Award for Achievement at the annual Penn State Staff Recognition Convocation. Burlingame was nominated by his staff assistant, Lori Robinson, and his supervisor, Sean Kelly for his outstanding support of students at the college and his service to the University for more than twenty years. Burlingame received a framed certificate and $100.00 for professional development during the upcoming academic year.

Harriet Gaston (coordinator of minority programs in the Division of Undergraduate Studies) received the second Penn State Altoona Mosaic Award for promotion of diversity. The Mosaic Award is presented on behalf of the Mosaic Committee, the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, and the Office of the Chancellor. The award is a college-wide award given to a faculty or staff member who has creatively and consistently contributed to the advancement of the college's diversity agenda.

Continuing Success

The Penn State Altoona Continuing Education and Training Department has recently been honored by Penn State Outreach for securing the most contracts for management development customized training throughout the Penn State system over this past year. Penn State has twenty delivery locations throughout the state that market customized contract training to businesses and organizations. In addition to selling the most training, over 25 percent of all management development enrollments statewide came through Penn State Altoona. Continuing Education continues to provide assessment of training needs for new companies throughout its service area of Blair, Bedford, Cambria, Hunting-don, and Somerset Counties.
