Bubbles of Fun

Mary Kananen, Penn State Altoona biology instructor, got creative about water composition with children from McAuliffe Heights in Altoona. Thanks to Kananen, first and second grade students were able to experience atoms and molecules in a unique hands-on way. First, the students blew bubbles in plastic cups with water, dish liquid, and straws. Then, as the highlight of the lesson, Kananen encased each child in a giant soap bubble.

The lesson was one of many special science activities happening at McAuliffe Heights thanks to a $1,000 Altoona Area School District Foundation Venture Grant awarded to the school’s principal.
