Todd Davis (associate professor of English) won the 2007 Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Prize for his poem “Tree of Heaven.” The poem will appear in the journal Mid-America.

Sohail Anwar (associate professor of engineering) was named a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Less than 8 percent of the 375,000 members of IEEE hold this rank, which requires experience reflecting professional maturity and significant professional achievements.

Jungwoo Ryoo (assistant professor of information sciences and technology) and Charlotte McConn (instructor in business administration) passed the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) exam sponsored by The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc., which is the globally recognized gold standard for certifying information security professionals throughout their careers.

Annette Zalanowski (Penn State Altoona Associate Professor Emerita of Music) received two special recognition merit awards for her artwork in the “9th Annual Abstraction Juried Online International Art Exhibition” hosted by upstreampeoplegallery.com. This international exhibition received nearly 400 entries from around the world. Juror Larry Bradshaw calls Zalanowski a “master of detail,” and describes her work as unique.
