Wassell named NSCAA/Adidas Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year
Women’s soccer coach Tim Wassell was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year. Coaches are selected based on a vote of their peers within the seven Division III regions.
The Hollidaysburg native, who just completed his second year at the helm, led the 2008 Lions to a 17-1-2 overall record, first-ever Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship and first NCAA Division III tournament appearance. Altoona finished the regular season an undefeated 16-0-1 and 8-0-1 in league play.
Wassell boasts a two-year career record of 30-7-3 and has set single-season program records in each of his seasons. He also was honored as the AMCC Coach of the Year after both the 2007 and 2008 campaigns.
The former Penn State Altoona goalkeeper, an eight-time AMCC Keeper of the Week and three-time Eastern College Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, took over for long-time coach Jim Fee just weeks before the 2007 season. Prior to that, he served as an assistant to Fee and men’s head coach John Parente.
Wassell received his Regional Coach of the Year honor at the NSCAA Awards Banquet on January 16 in St. Louis.
