Ivy Leaf - Spring 2009

City of Brotherly (Big) Love

The fall 2008 production of Big Love was 1 of 9 invited to be performed in its entirety at the Region II Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival in Philadelphia. The production was chosen from 250 eligible shows from New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.

Students performed January 14 at the Merriam Theatre for an audience of about 700. The National Selection Team respondents praised the actors and crew for the challenges, risks, and physical and emotional work involved with the show.

In addition, students Clay Hasychak and Mallorie Hallsal were invited to perform a scene from the February 2008 production, Two Rooms.

Students were able to participate in combat, voice, movement, and acting workshops while at the Festival. Marina Johnson was one of just a few student directors invited from the region to participate in the Student Directing Lab. She won a Certificate of Merit for her completion in directing a ten-minute scene from Fool For Love.
