Ivy Leaf - Winter 2010
Meet our newest members
Penn State Altoona's Alumni Society Board recently welcomed several new members to help with its efforts to raise scholarship funds, connect with students, and provide outreach to the community. Bobbi Manyara, Mark Massimilla, Cindy Mighells, Laura Scheinberg, Amber Smith, and Norma Wyerman all began their terms during 2009 and will serve three-year terms on the alumni board.
Bobbi (Iddings) Manyara, a 2001 elementary education graduate, is employed as a fourth-grade teacher in the Juniata Valley School District. She keeps active with daughter Ellie and with serving as Juniata Valley High School's band front coordinator.
Mark Massimilla is a 1979 graduate of Penn State Altoona with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. He serves as a quality engineer with Anderson Electronics and cites his favorite Penn State Altoona memories as the beautiful campus and the great friendships made here.
Cindy (Bell) Mighells graduated with an associate degree in Business Administration from Penn State Altoona in 1989 and recalls meeting one of her best friends while she was a student here. The two were in many of the same classes together and, after class one day, her friend offered her a piece of gum — their friendship blossomed and they remain close to this day. She is employed with Penn State Altoona in the Office of University Relations.
Laura (Thomas) Scheinberg graduated from Penn State Altoona in 1983 with an associate degree in Retail Marketing, then went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Communications at University Park in 1985. She keeps busy with her two sons and serves as a claims adjuster for Traveler's Insurance Company. She enjoyed Penn State football games most of all as a student.
Amber Smith is a 2007 graduate of Penn State Altoona's Communications bachelor's degree program, with an emphasis in public relations and advertising. She works in the field of public relations and is involved in the local community, serving as color guard advisor at Altoona Area High School and with several nonprofit organizations. One of the highlights of Amber's four years at Penn State Altoona was serving as a Lion Ambassador, and presenting the U.S. Marines with a check for more than $1000 for Toys for Tots with Chancellor Bechtel-Wherry and her fellow Lion Ambassadors.
Norma (Gardner) Wyerman graduated from Penn State Altoona in 1977 with an associate degree in Letters, Arts, and Sciences. She retired from a career in the medical field and pursued a Penn State degree as her brother, husband, and family members were Penn State alumni and she wanted to "Bleed Blue and White," too.
