"A Seat at the Table" workshop sessions set for Dec. 3
Penn State Altoona's Women's Studies program will host a workshop session for "A Seat at the Table" on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 4:00 - 5:15 p.m.in rooms 101-103 of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. The session will be a chance for students to consult with faculty, ask questions, and discuss ideas for the Penn State Altoona "A Seat at the Table" project.
The "A Seat at the Table" project is a year-long celebration of artist Judy Chicago's installation The Dinner Party. The installation is a mixed-media installation art project that Judy Chicago began in 1974 and, with the collaboration of numerous artists, completed in 1979. It is permanently housed at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. The installation features thirty-nine place settings on a forty-eight foot sided triangular table. Each place setting depicts a mythical or historical famous woman of Western Civilization.
Topics discussed at the workshop session will include how to select a woman to celebrate, how to translate the selected woman's life and contributions into a table setting, where to look for materials and supplies, what dimensions and elements a place setting should include, and how to get funding for materials.
