African-American Read-in Poetry Contest Deadline
African-American Read-in Committee Sponsors 2014 Poetry Contest
The African-American Read-In committee is sponsoring a poetry contest open to all Penn State Altoona students.
From now until January 15, 2014, students can submit original poetry inspired by the African-American experience, race relations in the United States, an African-American writer, or a work of African-American literature. The winner will be invited to read his or her poem at the African-American Read-In community dinner on February, 23, 2014, have the poem published in the program and on the Read-In Web site, and receive a $50 bookstore gift card.
Poems may (but are not required to) relate to this year’s theme, which is "Lift Every Voice." This theme is meant to encourage an exploration and celebration of the intertwined traditions of African American literature and music. Poems must be between ten and fifty lines long. Up to three poems per entrant will be considered.
Send your poem(s) and cover letter in one document as an email attachment to Carole Bookhamer at firstname.lastname@example.org. Your name should appear only on the cover sheet, along with your email address, phone number, and title of your poems.
Entries will be judged blindly by the African American Read-In Committee of faculty, staff, and students.
