Penn State Altoona to host Spooktacular Science
Penn State Altoona will host the annual Spooktacular Science Show on Saturday, October 10, 2009 in the Paul R. and Margery Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. The show is geared for students in grades one and up.
The Demonstration Show will take place in the theatre from 1 - 2:15 p.m. and will feature such demonstrations of science as an exploding pumpkin, sound-shattering glass, a colored flame tornado, a bed of nails, and more. The show is free and seating is limited.
Following the demonstration show, children and parents can visit one or more of seven science labs featuring hands-on experiments and activities. Children can make their own bouncing balls, use forensics to solve a mystery, and play with many fascinating displays of science.
Parents are assured that all demonstrations have been thoroughly tested for safety. Children will also be warned when loud noises are about to be made.
For more information about the show, contact Richard Flarend, associate professor of physics, at 814-949-5744; Marta Maurer, assistant professor of chemistry, at 814-949-5617; or Mary Menachery, professor of chemistry, at 814-949-5174.
