Penn State Altoona offers a SUGAR sweet event

Penn State Altoona's Division of Arts and Humanities presents the musical theatre production Sugar April 2 - 5, 2009 in the Paul R. and Margery Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. April 2 - 4 with a 2 p.m. matinee April 4 and 5. Tickets are $5 for Penn State Altoona students and $7 regular admission and be purchased at the Box Office.

Sugar is adapted from the screen classic Some Like It Hot. Joe and Jerry, a pair of out-of-work musicians witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago. The two escape to Florida where they find jobs as bass and saxophone players in an all-girl band. The new "girls" find themselves involved with Sugar, the gorgeous blonde featured singer with the band.

Penn State Altoona welcomes to this production Broadway's Karen Babcock, as guest director and co-choreographer. Penn State Altoona's Dr. Bonnie Cutsforth-Huber, assistant professor of music, KT Huckabee, assistant professor of integrative arts and dance and coordinator of the dance studies minor, Carlos Ruiz, resident scenic designer and instructor in theatre arts, and Head Librarian Timothy L. Wherry are all involved with the production. There are twenty Penn State Altoona student actors, singers, and dancers.

Tickets are available at the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts Box Office at Penn State Altoona, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and before and during all performances. Telephone reservations may be made by calling the Box Office at 814-949-5452. The Paul R. and Margery Wolf Kuhn Theatre is handicapped accessible and open to the public.
