This year, the NCAA has created a new initiative, Division III Week, to celebrate Division III student-athletes and their dedication to academic achievement, athletic accomplishments, and community service. During this week, which runs from April 9-13, Division III institutions are encouraged to showcase these aspects by getting involved in community service and promoting the campaign’s positive message. Penn State Altoona is participating in Division III Week through a number of activities.

The Student Athletic Advisory Council at Penn State Altoona will add to its already impressive community service resume by volunteering at the First Baptist Church Food Bank in Altoona on Thursday, April 12. They will also be participating in track and swimming practices for the Special Olympics of Blair County, which will be held at Penn State Altoona on Wednesday, April 11 and Friday, April 13, respectively.

The Penn State Altoona Athletics Department will show its commitment to community involvement by hosting a Faculty/Staff vs. Student-Athletes Charity Basketball Game. The event will benefit the Special Olympics of Blair County, allowing Penn State Altoona’s faculty, staff, and student-athletes to come together for a worthy cause. The game begins at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 11 in the Adler Gym. During halftime, the student-athletes will join the Special Olympics team for a basketball game of their own. The event will raise money for the Special Olympics of Blair County through a $2.00 admission fee, a 50/50 drawing, and a basket raffle. The proceeds from all concession stand items will also be donated to the cause.
