City Lights event focuses on the heritage and future of Pennylvania railroading

Penn State Altoona and the Penn State Alumni Association co-sponsored a City Lights event in Altoona on June 9, 2012. The day long event titled "All Aboard: The Heritage and Future of Pennsylvania Railroading," featured visits to the Horseshoe Curve and the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona. Also featured were railroad art exhibits by Penn State Altoona alumni Robert Hunt and Joe Servello in the galleries of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts on campus. Gerhard A. Thelen, vice president of operations and planning and support for Norfolk Southern, was the featured speaker during lunch at the Sheetz Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence on the college's Downtown Campus. The eighty-two event participants also had the opportunity to view a special exhibit of the historical William Rau Pennsylvania Railroad photos at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Altoona. The City Lights program, now in its eighth year, is a series of light education and cultural events for all alumni and friends in selected cities and regions where a large percentage of Penn State alums live.
