Penn State Altoona presents Woody Guthrie dance celebration

ALTOONA — The Vanaver Caravan will perform at Penn State Altoona on Friday, September 7, 2012. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. This event is sponsored by Woody@100, Woody’s Legacy to Working Men and Women, a nation-wide celebration of the life and legacy of legendary American folk singer Woody Guthrie. A series of speakers, presentations, and musical performances will be held at University Park September 7 - 9 as part of the celebration.
Vanaver Caravan's Pastures of Plenty, A Tribute to Woody Guthrie in Music and Dance, is a full-concert work, created by Bill and Livia Vanaver. It is a journey across the landscape of America's music and dance traditions. The work has been described as "an explosion of joy, rhythms, and energy" by Dance Magazine, and "a rousing hoe-down night" by The New York Times.
This concert is made possible by the generous support of Woody Guthrie Publications and The Richmond Organization, dedicated to preserving the life and legacy through educational and public performances.
The performance is free and open to the public.
