Penn State Altoona will present "Bad Teacher: How Blaming Teachers Distorts the Big Picture," a presentation by Kevin Kumashiro, on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in room 117 of the Science Building. The lecture will be followed by a book signing.

Kevin Kumashiro is professor of Asian American Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has taught in schools and colleges across the United States and abroad, and has consulted for school districts, organizations, and state and federal agencies. Kumashiro is the founding director of the Center for Anti-Oppressive Education. His lecture examines the current debates on educational reform, paying particular attention to the ways that scapegoating public school teachers, teacher unions, and teacher educators masks the real, systemic problems.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by Kappa Delta Pi and the Division of Education, Human Development, and Social Sciences.
