Chancellor Lori J. Bechtel-Wherry received the Francis of Assisi Award from St. Francis University at its annual Founders Day dinner on September 21, 2012. The dinner recognizes both the founding of the University by six Franciscan Friars in 1847 and the benefactors who continue to support the traditions and work begun by those Friars.

As the recipient, Bechtel-Wherry was invited to speak about her work and the continuing service work at Penn State Altoona.

Named in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron of the University, the Assisi Award is the highest honor bestowed by the University to recognize an individual, person, group, organization, or agency that exemplifies the spirit and ministry of Saint Francis of Assisi.
