Jerry Zolten, associate professor of communication arts and sciences at Penn State Altoona, remembered Isaac "Dickie" Freeman, bass singer of the Fairfield Four, who passed away Oct. 16 in Nashville, Tenn. Freeman and the Fairfield Four are best known for their appearance in the film "O Brother Where Art Thou" and their Grammy-winning albums on the Warner Brothers label.

In addition to writing about and touring with Freeman and the group, Zolten also produced Freeman's only solo album, "Beautiful Stars" (Lost Highway). The critically acclaimed album featured traditional African-American gospel tunes and one original song written especially for Freeman by one of his greatest fans, Garrison Keillor.

Freeman can be seen in a live performance at www.youtube.com/watch?v=or5bdZuGBgo.
