Mark F. Bowser, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Cox Communications Inc., has received the Penn State Alumni Fellow Award, the most prestigious award presented by the Penn State Alumni Association. The award honors prominent and outstanding alumni who are leaders in their fields and who have made notable contributions to their communities and to society.

Bowser, of Atlanta, is a former Penn State Altoona student and 1977 Penn State graduate. Nominated for the award by Penn State Altoona, he offered class presentations and met individually with students during a campus visit prior to the formal awards ceremony at Penn State’s University Park campus. Bowser is the tenth Penn State Altoona nominee to receive the Alumni Fellow Award.

Bowser began his career investigating white-collar crime for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He left law enforcement to work in telecommunications. Throughout his 30-year career in that field, Bowser has managed finance, sales, marketing, and business development for multiple Fortune 500 companies. He started at GTE and later served as president for the $6.5 billion business division at Sprint. Before joining Cox, Bowser led the large corporate accounts group at Dell.

Cox Communications is the country’s third largest cable television company, serving 6.2 million residential and commercial customers.
