ALTOONA — Penn State Altoona will present a colloquium with the 2012-2013 University Laureate Chris Staley at noon Monday, January 28, 2013, in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts conference rooms.

A distinguished professor of art at University Park, Staley will discuss creativity, curiosity, how this era of change has affected our sense of time, and what causes a person to be curious. He will also pose interesting questions such as how does spitting in a cup create insights to the powerful corporeal boundaries between inside and outside? How does throwing pots on an iPhone relate to the world of the analog and digital? Why are tears important to learning?

The University Laureate is a full-time faculty member assigned to serve in the position for one academic year. During that time, the individual appears regularly at events at University Park, on the Commonwealth Campuses, and throughout the state. The laureate brings an enhanced level of social, cultural, artistic, and human perspective and awareness to a broad array of audiences.
