Barkman receives award from Navy Operational Support Center

Sue Barkman, the athletic trainer for Penn State Altoona, has received the Sailor of the Quarter award from the Navy Operational Support Center in Norfolk, VA. NOSC Nofolk provides the training and administration for deployment of about 120 different Navy reserve units/commands and approximately 3,000 reserve sailors. Currently, Barkman is assigned to the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, which is a large command of more than 35,000 active duty and reservist sailors, headquartered in the Norfolk area.

There, Barkman serves as a Navy Chief and Corpsman, providing staff training to various global security operations, as well as occasionally offering medical support to special forces such as Navy SEALS, divers, paratroopers, Secret Service, joint and coalition forces, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal units.

Barkman received the award by "exhibiting outstanding performance of duty, leadership, military bearing and overall contribution to the efficiency, morale, and well being of the command"
