Penn State Altoona held its fall semester Gown Meets Town event Friday, December 14, 2012. Students from various disciplines showcased their work through presentations to the Blair County business community. The event is an opportunity for the business community to see firsthand the fine work and talent of students while building the students' communication and networking skills.

Students from the Electro-Mechanical Engineering program presented and demonstrated their senior projects, some of which included an automated firewood processor, water purification system, and automated biofuel processor. Students studying business presented on their internship opportunities, which were at available at Rex Energy, Sheetz Inc., the Altoona Mirror, and Perry Wellington Realty, among others. Students in the Security and Risk Analysis program presented on their internships and course projects.

The event also included the second phase of the Pechter Business Plan Competition in which five teams or individuals presented a detailed business concept to local business leaders. Two teams and one individual were selected to move onto the next phases of the competition, which call for a full business plan to be presented in April. The overall team or individual winner will receive a cash prize and other in-kind awards. Students moving forward in the competition are John Radan and Jimmy Coonan with J&J Transitions, Brittany Gill and Kristina Snyder with Majestic Grounds Free Trade Coffee Shop, and Cody Stitt, with Earthrealm Paintball.
