The 24th annual African-American Monday Marathon Read-In Chain was celebrated at Penn State Altoona Feb. 25. This year’s theme was 1963 – 2013: from the March into the Millennium.

The Marathon is an Open Mic event featuring various musical and spoken performances to celebrate African-American authors and artists. Students, faculty and staff participated in the day-long event. Joe Petrulionis, instructor in history and philosophy, offered the keynote presentation “Where's the Epic! Singing the Birth of a Multiethnic Nationality.”

Ross Gay, featured author of the 2013 African-American Read-In at Penn State Altoona, gave a reading of his works and signed books for those in attendance.

The 2013 African-American Read-In at Penn State Altoona events are sponsored by Lori J. Bechtel-Wherry, chancellor; The Letters Arts and Sciences Program; The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, The Division of Arts and Humanities; The Division of Education, Human Development, and Social Sciences; The Altoona College Honors Program; and the Blair County NAACP.
