Penn State Altoona freshman Michelle Colucci (Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's women's tennis Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Colucci came up big in a pair of important AMCC matches last week, going 2-0 in #1 singles and 1-1 in #1 doubles against quality opponents in back-to-back competitions.
Colucci battled back for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 win over a tough Franciscan University opponent in the #1 singles flight. She followed that performance by defeating the Pitt-Greensburg #1 singles player 6-3, 6-3.
In addition, Colucci's 8-6 win with teammate Cassie Yatcilla (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) in #1 doubles against Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday proved to be a decisive point in the Lady Lions’ 5-4 win to clinch the fourth seed in the AMCC Tournament.
Colucci finished the regular season with an 8-2 record in #1 singles -- the best mark on the Penn State Altoona women's tennis team. Colucci and Yatcilla posted a 6-2 record together in #1 doubles, which was the best record for the Lady Lions in doubles play.
Penn State Altoona finished its regular season schedule with a 6-6 overall record, including a 5-3 mark in the AMCC. The Lady Lions host fifth-seeded Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Adler Tennis Courts for a First Round AMCC Tournament match.
