Fisher, Nero Sweep AMCC Swimmer of the Week Awards

Penn State Altoona swimming swept the first week of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Swimmer of the Week awards, as sophomore Alex Fisher (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week and freshman Ashley Nero (Oak Hill, VA/Oakton) was selected as the Women's Swimmer of the Week.

Fisher had a great opening to his Penn State Altoona swimming career, winning five events and helping the Lions defeat Bethany College 142-55 on October 12 and place third at the Pitt-Bradford Relays on October 19.

Against Bethany, Fisher was part of the 200 Yard Medley Relay squad that finished first with a time of 1:35.02, setting a new school record. In addition, he clinched first place finishes in the 200 Yard IM (2:06.03) and 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:02.83). In the Bradford Relays, Fisher was a part of teams that took first in the 300 Yard Butterfly Relay (2:47.45) and the 300 Yard Breaststroke Relay (3:09.87).

Nero was a standout for the Lady Lions in her first two collegiate events, totaling four first place finishes in a 116-68 loss to Bethany and a third place finish at the Bradford Relays.

Against Bethany, Nero helped the team nab a trio of first places. In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, she joined her teammates to post a time of 2:06.12 for first. Individually, Nero won the 50 Yard Freestyle (26.07) and the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:13.69). At the Bradford Relays, Nero was a part of the squad that won the Mixed 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:40.41.
