McDowell, Hammer Named to All-AMCC Squad in Volleyball

Penn State Altoona senior middle hitter Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) was voted to the First Team of the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Team, which was released Wednesday, while sophomore outside hitter Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) earned a spot on the Third Team.

McDowell capped a four-year collegiate career by ranking among the top players in the AMCC in 2013. She led the conference in hitting percentage (.317), kills (378), and kills per set (3.29), and she was fourth in the league in blocks (67) and seventh in blocks per set (0.58). McDowell played in all thirty-one matches for the Lady Lions in her second year with the team. She was named the conference's Player of the Week three times during the season and also earned one Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Region Player of the Week award. This is her fourth AMCC All-Conference recognition.

Hammer posted a strong sophomore campaign for the Lady Lions, playing in thirty of the team's thirty-one matches. She ranked sixth in the AMCC in kills (244), ninth in kills per set (2.21), seventh in total blocks (62), and tenth in blocks per set (0.55). Hammer was second on her team in kills, kills per set, and total blocks. This is the first time she has been named to the All-AMCC Team.

Penn State Altoona women's volleyball posted a 5-4 record in the AMCC in 2013, part of a 16-15 overall mark.
