Penn State Altoona held its fall semester Gown Meets Town event Friday, December 13, 2013. Students from various disciplines showcased their work through presentations to the Blair County business community. The event is an opportunity for the business community to see firsthand the fine work and talent of students while building the students' communication and networking skills.
Students from the Electro-Mechanical Engineering program presented and demonstrated their senior projects, including an electric motorcycle, a portable sawmill, and a programmable golf swing simulator. Students studying business presented on their internship opportunities at Ward Trucking, State Farm, and the Blair Companies, among others, and students in the Security and Risk Analysis program presented on their internships and course projects.
The event also included the Pechter Business Plan Competition presentations in which ten teams or individuals presented a detailed business concept to local business leaders. Three teams and one individual were selected to move onto the next phases of the competition, which call for a full business plan to be presented in April. The overall team or individual winner will receive a cash prize and other in-kind awards. Students moving forward in the competition are: Daniel Finelli, Mike Hicks, Brittany Gill, Caleb Bowser, Andrew Bean, and Tim Baroni with Railroad City Automation; Suzanne Lesher, Matt Wagner, Chanel Barber, and Jason Diehl with Pocket Power; Kristina Snyder, Mackenzie Sternberg, Matt Adams, Wes Faulkner, Justin Shuhayda, and Chris Nelson with EZ-TILT Cart; and Michael Black with Signature Link Marketplace.
